A WEALTH OF FINE SCULPTURE

In the true spirit of the Thursday Plantation East Coast Sculpture Show, the Opening Day Garden Party, noon to 5.00pm on Sunday 16 September, will unveil an exhibition that really does have something for everyone. Enigmatic, scary, elegant, whimsical, witty, provocative, moving, beautiful-there's at least one work that each of these words describes. Materials? You name it-bronze, stone, wire and glass, ceramic, recycled steel-even fragments of a life from a burnt out house. It is all laid out among the rainforest gardens at Thursday Plantation in Ballina, Northern New South Wales, pioneers of the Australian tea tree oil industry.

"There's a depth and quality to the work this year that I think will prove it to be the best show we've ever had" says curator, Priya Woolston.

Performing at the Garden Party are Northern Rivers musicians "Satori", who will create a musical soundscape from 1.00pm.

At the Awards Ceremony at 3.00pm, the winners of the $10,000 Thursday Plantation Acquisition Award, the TEN Television Acquisitive and the TAFE Arts Prize will be announced. Refreshments will be available from the Verandah Café and the Zentfeld's Coffee Marquee. Admission is $5 (under 16 free) and everybody is very welcome.

A special media preview of the exhibition will be held from 11am Wednesday 12 September. The judging panel of Christopher Dean, Chairman of Thursday Plantation, Donna Marcus, Sculptor and Griffith University Lecturer and Kerrie-Ann Roberts, Exhibitions Manager of the Queensland Regional Galleries Association will be viewing the exhibition at this time.

The Thursday Plantation East Coast Sculpture Show opens on Sunday 16 September 2001 and runs until January 31 2002 at Thursday Plantation, Pacific Highway, 1km north of the Ballina Airport turn off. The exhibition, the Education Centre and Verandah Café are open 7 days a week, 9am to 5pm.
